What is CBAM?
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU climate policy tool designed to ensure that the price of imported goods reflects their carbon footprint during production of goods. It aims to prevent carbon leakage, create fair competition for EU industries, and support global decarbonization efforts. Importers of certain goods, e.g. steel, must report the embedded CO₂ emissions of their products and, once fully implemented, surrender CBAM certificates to compensate for these emissions.

The CBAM Transitional Registry
Since October 2023, the CBAM transitional registry has been in place. During this transitional period, Peter Cremer GmbH (CREMER STEEL) is required to collect and submit CO₂ emissions data for covered imports each quarter. We have been actively entering the CO₂ emission data during production process of steel into this registry to ensure compliance and contribute to greater climate accountability.
 

The Final CBAM Registry
Since March 2025, companies have been able to register in the new final CBAM register on the customs website to obtain the status of an Authorized CBAM Declarant, which is required to continue importing steel from Third Countries into the EU starting from 01.01.2026.
